Project Overview

The Crystal Exterior Siding Project demonstrates a different side of S. R. Freeman's custom residential work. After challenges arose with the project's previous framing team, SRF was brought in to take responsibility for the exterior siding scope and help the new general contractor advance the residence.

Rather than beginning with the structure from the ground up, the team entered an active project with existing conditions already in place. That required understanding what had been completed, coordinating with the new project team, and establishing a practical path forward for SRF's portion of the work.

Taking Over an Active Project

Joining a custom home midway through construction requires a different approach than starting with a clean set of plans and an untouched jobsite.

The existing work and changing project team meant S. R. Freeman first needed to understand the conditions it was inheriting. From there, the focus shifted to coordinating the exterior siding work with the general contractor and helping move the project toward the finish line.

The project reflects SRF's ability to adapt when the circumstances surrounding a build change.

A Closer Look at the Build

Exterior Siding

S. R. Freeman took responsibility for the residence's exterior siding scope, bringing experienced craftsmanship to an already active custom home project.

Existing Conditions

Because SRF joined after construction was underway, the team needed to work with existing conditions rather than approaching the scope as new construction.

Project Coordination

Close communication with the new general contractor helped align the siding work with the remaining construction needs.

Field Adaptability

Taking over an existing scope required the team to assess what was already in place and adapt its field approach accordingly.

A Different Kind of Project Challenge

Not every difficult project is defined by complex rooflines, structural steel, steep terrain, or winter weather.

At Crystal, the challenge was stepping into a project already in progress and helping establish forward momentum. Existing construction conditions and a transition within the project team made communication and adaptability particularly important.

S. R. Freeman focused on the work it was brought in to perform while coordinating with the general contractor to support the remaining construction process.

Experience That Extends Beyond Framing

While custom residential structural framing remains central to S. R. Freeman's work, exterior siding and trim is one of the company's core services.

Projects like Crystal demonstrate the value of having a team that understands how exterior work relates to the structure and the broader construction sequence. That experience can be particularly useful when entering an existing project where earlier decisions and completed work must already be taken into account.

Built With the Bigger Picture in Mind

S. R. Freeman approaches every scope as part of a larger construction process.

Our philosophy is to think like builders, not just framers. At Crystal, that meant understanding the existing conditions, coordinating with a new general contractor, and approaching the exterior siding scope with awareness of what had already happened and what still needed to be completed.

Sometimes thinking ahead also means knowing how to step into a project already underway and help move it forward.
